skimmer cracked best way to seal it up
I have a very small hairline crack in my skimmer due to ice over the winter. It's so small the water just "sweats" out of it. I put some silicone on it for now and that stopped the leak but after this season would like to fix it from the inside. What do you recommend to fix this? JB Weld? Does that stuff always have to be mixed?
Re: skimmer cracked best way to seal it up
Nichole, I just had the same thing on an Astral pool last week (it's my wife's friend's mom's pool and I opened it on Mem day for them). There were some other small leaks that I didn't have the materials to seal (teflon didn't work) - so I went back on Sunday and fixed the threaded leaks with teflon and pipe dope- and brought some 2 - part epoxy putty. I mixed up the putty and 'smeared it' into the crack from the inside and outside then added another ~ 1/32" layer to the smear aprox 1/8" to either side of the crack and smoothed the edges - on both the in and out sides of the skimmer pot. I've patched MANY a cracked skimmer similarly -- it usually holds for a few years, if not longer.
In this case, the problem is that whoever closed the pool only put a plug in the skimmer port, even though I found 2 Gizzmos with the pool equipment:confused: , either using one of the Gizzmos or leaving the port open to drain would most probably prevented the problem:mad:
