Its gunite with sides that are a hard panel material (Fiberglass?).
    20X40 11' deep

I get a little depressed when I look at all the work that needs to be done. I tried to fight the algae last year but couldnt keep up even with daily scrubbing, vaccuming, and shocking.

The structure is actually ok and doesn't leak (Although the plumbling does somewhere).

I learned that the condition of my plaster is largely to blame....the previous owner recoated it every spring with a very cheap plaster, the end result is a flaky, pitted, dirty mess.....Algae heaven!

I picked away some of the older plaster on the stairs and it was a good dozen layers at ~1/2 inch thick. The stairs seem to be the worst....the rest is actually pretty solid.

I plan on overcoating the whole pool, fiberglass and all with a hybrid epoxy to achieve a smooth surface (and hopefully long lasting).

For preperation I intend to chisel the worst of it, then use a 3500PSI pressure washer followed by an acid wash.

Any advice? (Other than fill it with dirt

You might consider putting a liner in it. Not sure how you would secure the liner at the top, but if it can be done you would be very happy with the ease of running a liner pool. Paul

    I second the liner approach.

If you decide to paint make sure you remove all loose plaster then patch those areas. You will also need to remove the old caulk between the concrete and fiberglass panels then recaulk. If you decide to put in a liner you will still need to repair all rough areas.
