    Default Water Evaporation

Just curious as to how much water is lost to evaporation.
I'm in NJ and we've received almost no rain in the past 10 days. In the same 10 days my kids have not been in the pool and I've lost about .5-.75 inches.

Is this a normal rate of evaporation (my filter is on for about 14 hrs mostly at night) or do I have a leak in my new liner .

tough to say, sounds pretty normal, especially when hot dry and windy, however, if you suspect a leak, it is in your best interest to do the bucket test so you know for sure.

It sounds about right--I've lost closer to 2" in the last week or so, but we haven't had rain in over a month and the air temp is 100-104 for the past week...

Same here. I'm in lower NY. Lost about 1 1/2 to 2" in the last 2 weeks without rain. (Got an inch back yesterday due to nice overnight rain). That's why I started using my solar cover again.

that sounds about right to me. You can cut that down a lot with a solar cover.

I started worrying if we had a leak too because it seemed like the level is down every few days by about an inch. My wife assures me it's simply evaporating because it's been 100 degrees almost every day, it's only rained-rained once (and for only 10 minutes) in about 3 months and our backyard is always windy. As hot and dry as it's been I guess it is just normal evaporation.

    I second that from Arizona.

Your evaporation sounds fine to me.

    Ken,
Sleep well, enjoy the pool, don't be concerned. I'm in Northeast PA and see similar numbers.
