Wink Questions on sump pump for ground water

I had read somewhere back in previous posts about problems with ground water behind liner. We have this problem and for years have placed a siphon pump behind the liner. I read about having a hole dug close to the pool and using a submersible pump to remove ground water that way. It sounds like a great solution....does anyone know how far from pool to dig the hole>? there is a concrete apron of 3' all around.
how deep would you have to dig>?

WE had the same problem with water behind our liner in the shallow end of our pool. It got bad. We used a hose attached to a pump to suck out the water. It was horrible. Our pool was dug too low, and we never had ground water before the pool started. The hole dug was dry during excavation. We just always had to use thehose/ pump behind the liner after a rain. We eventually moved. How bad is your problem???

I had a very good builder who was familiar with this type of problem when he built our pool about 8 years ago. What he did for $500 was to place a drywell under the deep end of the pool which is filled with gravel. There is a two inch pipe which goes from that area and connects up to the inlet manifold where our skimmers and main drain feed the circulation pump. When we have had rain or if I notice any looseness in the liner I just valve out the skimmers and main drain, valve in the drywell and set the multiport valve to waste. The main pump then pulls all the water out from under the pool and prevents any problems. It was $500 very wisely spent.

My water table here is quite high. I have a sump pit next to the pool that keeps the water from getting behind the liner. I can't tell you how it was installed, the pool came with the house.

It is located on the deep end about 5 feet from the pool. It is 2 feet in diameter. I don't know how deep it is, but looks to be 12 feet or more (My pool is 9 feet deep). With my luck if I tried to measure it I would just end up dropping the thing I was using to measure it with down in the pit. LOL!

The sump pump evacuates the water through a backwash hose to the street which is about 140' away. My filter also dumps the waste/backwash into the sump pit.

Edit: I never turn the power off to this, even in the winter. The water level is far below the frost line. It runs whenever it needs to much like a sump pump in the basement that many houses have around here.
