Default Taylor test kit first results

    Hello,

I just purchased a taylor k-2006 based on recs. from here. It's a little intimidating at first but i think i got the hang of it. Here are my numbers for a 21,200 gal SWG pool.

    PH 7.2
    Alkalinity 100
    TC 1.2
    FC 1

    CYA 53

A couple of questions. First, how high should i raise ph to.
Second is my total CC low and my CC to high. Any recs. on changes i should make.

    Thanks

Since FC + CC = TC, your CC is only 0.2, which is basically non existent. Disregard it, as long as your water is clear, blue, and not cloudy. The pH will rise on its own, due to the operation of the SWG, so I'd leave it alone. I think you might want to raise your Alk just a tad, maybe to the 140 range, but I'll leave that to the SWG experts.

I'm fascinated. How did you manage to get a TC reading of 1.2?

Don't you get increments of 0.2 when you use a 25 ml sample?

Yes i did use the 25 ml sample and it is in .2 increments. Is 1.2 a bad reading?
I did take my water in to the pool shop just to compare since this was my first time and i just wanted to see if i was way off anywhere. They had a total chlorine for me of 1.0 and free of .6. If they are correct my CC is .4 which in reading is high. Now, i have been running my SWG for about 6 hours a day but i also have had a solar cover on during the day over the past 3 days because i just purchased it and was letting it settle before cutting. I'm hoping that sunlight during the day will kill some of the CC. Or is there anything else someone could suggest?

OK, but you don't measure TC with the FAS-DPD kit. You measure FC and CC.

So...if your FC was 1 and your CC was .2 THEN your TC is 1.2.

But it may not be. If CC measures at .2, then minimum then it may be .1 or less. It merely means there is SOME CC. And if it's coming in at .2 then don't worry about it.

Thanks for the response. I was just taking the FC and CC adding them up to get TC.

Leave your alkalinity where it is. You're fine with maintaining between 80 -120 ppm, but 80 - 100 is better.
Did you happen to test Calcium Hardness?

What is your salt level (not part of the K2006 kit though)?
    The rest looks good.
