What size sand filter do you have and how many pounds of sand did you add?
Is it a 1HP Up-rated or full-rated pump?
thanks to all for this forum as i am at wits end.
i replaced the sand in my filter and purchased a new pump.
since i did this the pressure runs around 8 psi then within the hour it raises to 20 psi and
the circulation drops off severly.
i have a 15x32 above ground with a 1 hp pump.
after i backwash it seems to work fine but is it normal to backwash every hour until the water clears up?
thanks in advance for any help,
greg

not sure of the size of the filter, it took 2 bags of sand,
it says splash pac 160 for the model number.
the pump is a hayward power flo xl.
it seems to be getting better as it has been 2 hours since the last backwash and i am
still at 10 psi.
is it possible that the water was so dirty that it was clogging the sand?
thanks and let me know,
greg
Hi Greg and welcome to the forum.
It is definitely possible for the pressure to climb fast when it's filtering a lot of stuff. Also depends on what kind of stuff. If it's larger particles then they will get trapped at the very top of the sand bed and raise the pressure pretty quick. When you backwash if you can look at the stream being dumped that will be a better indication of the amount of crud being collected than the sight glass.
