Making solar reel

I have a 27ft round above ground that
is inground. Does anyone know how to
make a solar reel or any advice. They
look cheap and are so expensive to buy.

I'm sure you could invent one that hangs just beyond the pool using 3" or 4" PVC or 1.25" iron pipe from Home Depot. You could even make your crank from the stuff. You can get a strap set for a reel without the reel and they will velcro to the tube. I would think the hardest part would be the bearings but some plastic or brass could make plain bushings for them.
