OK I've changed gasket for pump basket and o-ring @ the vari-flo valve and base. also checked all conections from pump to the filter.started the pump up on filter, window showed no bubbles yeah. But awhile later hours rechecked, guess what saw my old friends bubbles. Rechecked all connection all threads no water leaks maybe a few drips around vari-flo head and sand base. Even checked drain plugs on pump basket. restarted everything looks good for awhile then bubbles come back and water level in basket dropped about 1/4 of inch and all kinds of bubbles. Note that when I started my pump in filter guage reading 24PSI any suggestions.

Sure sounds like an air leak somewhere and that somewhere would be on the suction side, not the pressure side so concentrate on the suction side. It also sounds like a very tiny leak and that's all it takes. You can try smearing vaseline around the pipe joints as it is thick and if you have a hairline crack that should seal it. Then fix it when you find it. Don't leave the vaseline on O-rings or gaskets for any period of time. Vaseline is cheap and cleans off easily. Also, is yours an above or in-ground pool? Reason I ask is for access to the skimmer basket connection. Under a deck can be a dog.

its a inground pool . i noticed this morning that when i turned the pump off i had a little stream of water shoot out the side off sight cover at the pump. do i need to glue the gasket in the basket for it to seal proper. also heard small sound of air around the handle at the sand filter, don't know if thats where air was in the basket. just some things i wanted to shoot out there to you. again thanks for the info. if i was to have to glue the gasket what type of glue would you use.
