A pool service friend I talked to list night said he should buy a solar heating system instead of using the free heater. Any thoughts?

A friend of mine is has been given a Pentair natural gas pool heater. Not having a natural gas supply, he's going to have it converted to propane. His pool is only about 12K gallons so I'd expect the heater will have an easy time of it. My question is-is there any reason to think that this will be a bad combination?? Does anyone know of any tips he needs to hear? Thanks

Let me guess...they just happen to sell solar heating systems?Just kidding...seriously though, your friend may want to check into the cost of solar heating vs. the cost of converting the other heater. I don't use either one down here in Louisiana so I can't offer any helpful advice, but fellow mod CarlD uses solar panels and has great results with them....and the long-range cost is much better for solar than for any fuel-powered system.
