    Question Leak ?

I have a 15ft AG pool. I recently put my solar cover on, but here in NJ it's been nothing but cloudy and rainy. I've noticed that my water level seems to be going down about 1/4" in about 12 hours. I have noticed that this has happend since I put the solar cover on.

From what I've read, solar covers prevent evaporation, which I think it's safe to say that with temps around 70 and barely any sun that evaporation is not my problem. I've had the pool for around 7 yrs.

Any suggestions on what I should do ?

    Thanks
    Joe

You're right in that it isn't evaporation. If you do the math the leak rate is about 2.3 gallons per hour or a 55 gallon drum a day. If it's near the edge I would think you should see continual dampness but with all the rain you won't notice anything. Any chance the leak is outside the pool like in the external plumbing and you're not seeing it because of the rain? Don't have anything else to suggest at this time.

Joe, I was born and bread in Tenafly - come Tuesday, or whenever this %^*^%&^$#^%$ rain stops, do as Al said and look around the plumbing for drips - please remember to check under the pump!. If it's not a plumbing issue, it's a liner issue and we can tell you how to check the liner for leaks

In the mean time, just run a hose into the pool so you don't get too low on the water level (of course with the rain we're expecting - the hose probably won't be needed)

    Thanks guys.

I checked all my hoses and they seem fine. I did notice the fitting that goes into the filter from the skimmer hose has a little bit of water around it. It's a white PVC fitting with teflon tape on it from last year.

I put the filter on and wiped away the water several times and it immediately re-appeared. So, what I did this morning before I left for work was, plugged up the skimmer with a rubber ball and brick so the pool water does not flow out of the skimmer and also I plugged up the return. I will see what the level looks like when I get home tonight. I picked up some teflon tape and I will replace the old tape.

I Sure as hell HOPE that is my problem. I don't feel like replacing the liner.

Well, after putting on some fresh teflon tape, I did not lose any more water.
One question though, is there any way to totally stop all water from seeping out ? It 's still is a tiny tiny bit wet.

Any tips or tricks on teflon tape or anything else ?

    Thanks
    Joe
