Leaking Pump - Help Pleas

Hello All,
I have a Pentair Ultra Flow Pump(8th season)
that is leaking back thrpough wher the motor attaches to the pump. It's not leaking at the gasket at the seal plate. I got the motor seperated from the pump via removing the 4 bolts. But I cant get the impeller off. I removed the screw lock, but the impeller doesn't seem to wnat to come off. Any ideas wher the water might be leaking from? It actually leks through the vent hole in the bottom of the motor.
Any help would be appreciated.

I never had to change one but it sounds like the seal is leaking. Try and fine the manual for that pump and it should tell you how to change the seal. The impeller might be a reverse thread but I'm just guessing. Someone who knows more should be along shortly.

thanks for the quick reply. when you say seal, do you mean the seal plate? The problem I am having is that I can't get the impeller seperated from the seal plate. I took off the impeller lock nut, but the impeller doesn't seem to come off, which keeps me from seperating the motor from the seal plate. The water isn't leaking from the seal plate itself, but pack past the seal plate where the motor connects to the seal plate. I took off the difuser and cleaned and lubed the O-ring there.

Any other thoughts?

There is a shaft seal assembly, not the plate, that's probably the culprit. That assembly should be right behind the impeller. Looking at the manual for my Hayward the impeller is a standard right hand thread. i.e. counter clockwise to remove it. There is also a flat on the back end of the motor shaft for a wrench to keep the shaft from turning. You should find the manual to be sure of yours and avoid damaging anything.

I think you might be right. What I am struggling with is getting that impeller off as it spins both ways. I don't see the flat on the back end of the motor shaft you are referring to. Do I have to take something else apart?
I attached a link to the schematic of my pump as reference. One thing I did notice, is that when I took off the locking nut, I did not notice and o-ring or difuser (items 7 and 9 on the schematic). Not sure if they could have come off previously and I didn't notcie or do they come off when you take off the impeller (which is what I am currently struggling with.
Your continued help is greatly appreciated. I really don't want to pay a pool guy $100 bucks for a 10 minute fix.

That pump is definitely way different than mine but it's item #2 that is probably bad.
Check this site and see if the owners manual is listed. Didn't see anything for an Ultra-Flow. The flat for a wrench on mine is at the rear under the back cover. One manual I looked at on the site below mentioned a screwdriver slot to hold the shaft. See what you can find.

Would this area to hold the shaft be withn the motor itself or the pump?

Typically the back end of the motor, the end opposite the pump end. Under that back cover there is usually the centrifugal starter switch and in some cases the starting capacitor.

Thanks very much for the help. The seal was the problem. Replaced it myself for $20. Probably saved at least $100. What a great forum. Has saved me tons over the years.
