Check under the pump where the motor connects to it for drips. Your shaft seal may have gone bad and is allowing water into the motor.
Last night we turned our pump on and it is making this whine type noise. It has been running already this year w/o problems until last night. The noise is loud, any ideas what the problem might be? My husband thinks we need a new pump and I am just floored that we may need a new pump this is only our 4th season of the pool being in place.
Help!

Sometimes it will whine if there is stuff tangled up in the impeller like pine straw, brush bristles, rope fragments, or anything else that may have gotten through your strainer basket. Might want to check that, too.
