Default First opening after installing generator

Well we are getting ready at the end of April to open our pool. This will be the first reopening since installing our chlorine salt generator. Can we just hook up the pipes do some cleaning and turn the generator up to 100% till we reach the proper chlorine level or should we dump some liquid chlorine in the pool to get things started?

Of course I will check the salt concentration to make sure it's right. Anything else I need to know or should this be pretty much a normal opening without the putting in chemcials?

I open to a swamp every year, don't cover the pool. I get the ph set up, then shock with chlorine. I clean up the pool and wait until my chlorine reading stays constant over night. Work at getting the water balance right. Let the chlorine go down to 5ppm for my setup. Then I fire off the SWCG.

SWGs are designed to maintain the FC level, not shock a green swamp. If you need to shock, add bleach. Not only will it help preserve cell life, there is a difference between adding the correct amount of chlorine all at once and having it creep up over a 24 hour period. The former is much more effective.

Thanks. That is what I thought, but I wanted to make sure since it was the first time. We do cover so it shouldn't be too dirty.
