Default Which is the best pump?

I have a 20'x40' IG liner pool that I switched to salt 3 years ago, located in Georgia. It is 12 years old and my 1hp Dura-Glas pump went out yesterday. I have had what I think is good service from this pump. Does anyone have any recommendation on the best pump to replace it with?

I'm not the best pump guy but my choice would be another 1hp Full-rated pump, but make it two-speeds--you'll LOVE having the lower speed as it will save money, be quieter even though you have to run 50% to 100% longer (it's STILL cheaper than full speed).

I've been delighted with my Hayward SuperPump 2spd, but I wouldn't be brand-biased. You've had good service with Dura-glass--look into another. Search the forum for info on them...there should be some.

Be VERY wary of dealers trying to sell you 1.5, 2 or even 2.5 hp pumps. Unlike cars, HP isn't nec. the best thing. If 1hp did you well for 12 years, the latest 1hp full-rated (not up-rated) should do you even better. You might even be able to get a .75 hp 2 speed and save even more $$$ on electric.

Now I'll let the pros sound off.
