    Default High Chlorine, greener pool?

This forum has been so great i've been neglecting to check it. It helped me tremendoulsy when I started my pool, and I've used the info to run my pool for the last 6 years without much incident. But now I've got a semi-green-ish pool that won't go away. I've had my chlorine generator kicking out chlorine for 5 days over 80% and have had over 2.5ppm the past week. Checked this a.m. and my chlorine is over 3.0. Yet my pool is still green. Neighbor thinks it's all the pollen, very heavy here in Central TX right now. It does settle to the bottom somewhat, but the water is still tinted green, and more heavier today even with the 3.0 readings. Any ideas? CYA is ok (tested June/July) and Alk is lower than the standard 'high' of our very hard water here due to me adding acid every month. I just don't know how to make the 'green' tint leave? If it is pollen, which it may be, because you can see it filter right thru back into the pool (he says that's a good indication beause pollen is microscopic and won't filter out) is there any way to get rid of it except vac. to waste? I have done that 3 times in the last 2 weeks and am paying a water bill higher than gasoline! We say in Texas "Whiskey's for drinkin', Water's for fightin' over."
    Thx

We really need a complete set of water testing results numbers taken with a drops-based test kit to be able to help. Then, somebody here can better advise you on how to clear your pool. Also, tell us what type of filter you have --- sand, DE, cartridge?

Tman, Lisa (Watermom) is right that we need solid test numbers and who and how they were come by

Pollen does cause a green tint, but if you live in an area where you got any of the fallout from Ike, there may be other stuff in your pool that's causing the problem, too. As Waste and Lisa requested, go ahead and post a set of test numbers and I'm sure we can help you clear it up.

I've pretty much convinced myself that chlorine added to water with a highish iron content will give the false impression of an algae bloom. I saw it happen several times in my pool here in the country, till I learned to add water into the skimmer to be filtered thru the DE first.
