Aquador not Watertight

I guess I should have mentioned that this is an AG pool. Hoses disconnected, so the skimmer is not going to retain water --Is It?? Hmmmm. Maybe. It might.

You did say it was an AG and I just assumed you wouldn't be draining below the skimmer and return. Ice causes a problem when it freezes and expands with nowhere to go. Pipes break when ice plugs form with water between them freezing later and the prior ice plugs don't let the expansion take place. If you leave the hose off and do the foam thing anyhow you'll be OK even if the water or ice level creeps up over the winter.

Try replacing the cover. They are sold separately from the skimmer unit.

You may also have a leaking gasket. I find my Aquador frequently leaks, but not badly. I, too, use a Gizmo and check from time to time if there's ice during the off-season.

I am a first-time Aquador user like brbrega (new liner). The problem was that the Aquador which was supposed to "just snap on" was such a tight fit that we ended up pounding on it with a rubber mallet, and even with that we couldn't get a good even fit all round and the water was still coming in. Eventually we had to get help from a pool service company who first advised using a lubricant (which helped) and eventually had to come round because it was still leaking, by now I was finding a couple of long tight vertical cracks in the main body of the skimmer that I don't think were there before, one of them doing a slow leak. Not unexpectedly the service company reported that the skimmer face plate was all cracked and no good any more. They got the pool ready for the winter and we'll deal with the rest in the spring. MY QUESTIONS: CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW HARD IT USUALLY IS TO GET AN AQUADOR ON ? (Our skimmer is a 15 year old AquaGenie).

As far as winterizing is concerned (somebody's question above), even though there is water in our skimmer (which was never the case before we got landed with this Aquador) the service guys were able to put a load of antifreeze in the return line to the skimmer and assured me that would be ok and all I have to do is blow out the return line to the jets (and of course I'll be putting the milk jug into the skimmer). Makes sense. This is also our first winter with a trampoline cover so there'll surely be more adventures in store . . .
