    Default Need Advice on New Pump

    Hi;

    I first want to thank everyone for their posts/advice, this season has been a really good one because of this forum.

    I have a Hayward Pump which is making a racket when on, i'm assuming the bearings are loose. It pumps fine, besides the noise. The model # is SP1607-Z-1-M. It is a 1 HP PH1 RPM 3450 motor.

    My question is a s follows: First off, is this a good size for my pool? Should I replace it with a whole new pump, have the motor rebuilt (i'm nervous the loose bearings ruined the motor), or just replace the motor?

    Also, i am handy, I I decide to change the motor, is it a big job?

    I would appreciate any advice/past experience.

    Thanks.

    Seems like a proper size pump. Bearings typically start making noises way before they fail. If the motor isn't weather beaten and corroded or rusted then I'd take the motor apart and just replace the bearings if the disassembly is clean and easy. You can probably get bearings from the motor manufacturer or maybe even Hayward, or try McMaster.com. They have a big assortment of bearings at reasonable prices and quick shipping. While you have it apart I'd replace the seal assembly too. If you just want to replace the motor as a whole, that's easier yet.
