We bought a free-floating one several years ago, and only used it a couple of times that year, and never since. The reason we have not used it is that the manufacturer recommends that you not swim with it in the pool because a swimmer could get caught or tangled in the clear hose. We like to use our pool when we have guests, so we prefer to swim in it rather than look at it. But if the occasion is like a reception where you want the ambiance of the pool and fountain without the temptation to swim, it's okay.
A fountain is also an effective way to lower your pool temperature, if you have a problem with it being too hot. We do not; I added a heat pump a few years ago to increase our pool usage. It is not difficult to set up or take out, and there is a weight to keep the fountain in the center of the pool so you don't spray water on the deck.
Hope this description helps you decide. It's really a matter of how you intend to use your fountain.
