    Default Pool fountains

Sorry - not quite sure where to post this question... has anyone used those floating pool fountains that float freely or attach to the wall? Do they work? Do they look really tacky? Can't afford to build a waterfall...

We bought a free-floating one several years ago, and only used it a couple of times that year, and never since. The reason we have not used it is that the manufacturer recommends that you not swim with it in the pool because a swimmer could get caught or tangled in the clear hose. We like to use our pool when we have guests, so we prefer to swim in it rather than look at it. But if the occasion is like a reception where you want the ambiance of the pool and fountain without the temptation to swim, it's okay.

A fountain is also an effective way to lower your pool temperature, if you have a problem with it being too hot. We do not; I added a heat pump a few years ago to increase our pool usage. It is not difficult to set up or take out, and there is a weight to keep the fountain in the center of the pool so you don't spray water on the deck.

Hope this description helps you decide. It's really a matter of how you intend to use your fountain.

There are some fountains that can be left in the pool while swimming. Polaris makes a few styles but they are pricy. BTW, these type of fountains are EXCELLENT for aerating the water when lowering TA.

Thanks so much. My office goes out to the pool deck and I just thought it would be cool to listen and look at and they are relatively inexpensive. But I didn't think about it cooling down the temperature - that's an added plus. Thanks for your replies

I have one of the Polaris fountains that attaches to the side where my Polaris cleaner attaches. We really like it, and use it mainly to cool the water (Louisiana in full sun). It works well, and holds up pretty well to rambunctious kids, too.....

I think we spent around $100 for it, but it was well worth it.
