    Default Well points?

Can well points be added around and existing pool? how is this done? We get ground water behind our pool frequently due to lay of the land......

It depends on what your ground type is. If it is sand then yes it can be done. You would need a well point company to come in and do it though. This is a specialty job that requires alot of equiptment that is not rentable or reproduceable. What they would have to do is core some holes in the concrete decking, then they take a steel cylinder and place it in the hole, inside of the cylinder there is a pvc pipe with small slits in the bottom of it. They then BLAST water into it, displacing the sand out of the hole, pumping it through a settling tank, thus sinking the cylinder and the pvc into the new hole, and once in, remove the cylinder, leaving the pvc. Some cutting may have to be done to pipe them all together.

If the ground is cohesive, or clay, even a clay/sand mix, then this won't work. You would need to dig down and place one in using stone as a filtering medium. I am sure that a well company could get something going for you, but I don't see what good it would do as you would need alot of them if your ground did not drain well. This is something that should be thought of as the pool is being installed.

Now, another question I have, is this something that you would want to do regularly? I don't see much use in that. I can see having a dry hole in case you ever need to drain the pool, to keep it from floating, or to work on something. But to just use them to keep water from getting near you pool is really an excersise in futility. You should maybe have not built it there.

actually, the pool was built almost 30 yrs ago!!...but I have noticed that newer pool installs have them. No, its not a frequent thing, just in spring and after heavy rains..I put a pump behind the liner to drain the water...just a minor nuisance.
