    Default strange problem with sand filter

    I have a brand new 1 1/2 hp hayward pump. Just got it hooked up yesterday (finally) and when I backwash, there is not much pressure and the water is not moving in the little glass eye. Any clue what we did wrong? Thanks!!!

    Sounds like the valve isn't plumbed correctly but if it was connected wrong then the functions probably wouldn't work at all. An example, in backwash then nothing would come out the waste line. On the backwash and waste settings you should definitely see activity in the sight glass. In Waste mode do you get good flow out the waste line?
    What model filter and valve assembly do you have? Has to be a solution and we'll figure it out.

    When I posted the question last night, I knew someone would ask that, but we had a gazillion police cars and police officers swarming the house next door, so I did not want to go out to the pool at that time. I will check on the model etc tonight.

    There is nothing that says waste on it. We looked yesterday.

    We have never had a problem like this before and everything else seems to be working just fine. However, the pool is gross gross gross, and I am wondering if the gunk that has already (in just a few hours of operation) gotten in the basket on the motor might be causing the problem. Thanks for your help, and I will get the answer this evening. Lisa in Kansas City

    My mom (who is 78!!!!!) went out and played with the sand filter and she took the top off, and found a little piece of plastic stuck in the area where the water comes out during backwash. It is working fine now. Yippeeeee! Thanks for your help though. )

    Glad it was something simple.
    However....don't leave us hanging. What was going on next door?

    Actually it was an acorn stuck in there!!

    I don't know what was going on. The police keep driving by several times a day and the woman that lives there has the garage door closed and has taken down all the security cameras he had up. It is a drug house (they cook meth we think) and her son lives in the basement with his girlfriend and her little boy. {The mom upstairs has custody of her sons son because he (the boy) was playing with matches when he was really young (about 5 I think) and started a fire that killed his baby brother while his mom was strung out on drugs and his dad was in prison for drugs.}
    Then some other guy moved into the basement and they were beating each other up the other day. Later that night is when the police were there. They searched the woman that lives there car, and just as they finished up her son drove down the street and took off real fast and all the cops went after him. Who knows what is happening...We think the extra guy that moved in probably went to the hospital after the fight. Who knows? But thanks for asking. ) It is like a soap opera and CSI all next door!!
