Water Clean - but now too much FC

Please report to what level of FC you shocked. I fought my green pool with FC= 20 (CYA=60) and won it like you did , but another member of this forum is having a problem fighting it.

I have to admit I was not being scientific. I shocked, I still saw green, I shocked some more, kept vacuuming and backwashing. I'd estimate that I got it up to 20. Obviously, I overdid it a bit. But the water is nice and clear, if a little chlorine-smelling (for my family's use, I like to keep the CYA and chlorine level very low, and just add bleach every day or so). For the party, I'm fine with it.

7.2 is a little low for pH but chlorine is more effective at lower pHs. Still, the most harm it will do is cause swimmers' eyes to burn a little. Raising it a little to 7.3 to 7.6 isn't a bad idea. I'd add 1/4 box of Borax, then test pH 12-24 hours later.

If you smell chlorine, you are still metabolizing something. It might be a few leaves and bugs in the skimmer, or it might be something a little more serious--but only proper testing will tell.
