If you have a CYA around 30, and you have algae, then you need to add enough bleach to get the chlorine level up to 15-19 ppm and KEEP IT THERE by testing and adding more bleach 2-3 times daily. The more consistent you are about keeping the chlorine at shock level, the faster the water will clear. Also, you need to have the pump running 24/7 during the process, because the chlorine will kill the algae but the pump/filter is what will remove it. You're right that the trichlor pucks will lower your pH--but you still need to add baking soda to up your alk. Watch the CYA though--you don't need for it to get much higher.
