Default Liner looks like it had a bad sunburn

I took the winter cover off of my pool this morning. The liner above the water line has peeled, looks just like skin peeling from a sunburn. The liner still feels strong underneath not sure what has peeled off. My husband wants to try to get another season out of it which for us is really just 3 months. Anyone had a liner do this before?

What's the worst that could happen? The liner could fail so you have to replace it and replace all the water--which you'll have to do when you re-line anyway. Meanwhile, check your water carefully--I suspect your pH may be dangerously low and the acid's attacking your liner. Acid Rain is very real to pool owners who find low pH every spring.

What's intersting though is that this is 2" above the water line at the pool fullest so water never touches this part of the liner. It's on the side of the pool that gets constant sun so I think that is what has done the damage.

Thanks. I think I've been convinced to wait it out and see what happens and if we can get one more season out of it that would be great and we can tackle the problem next year.

In the mean time I've drained the pool down about 1 1/2 feet to refill to lower my CYA and also to hopefully fix the side of the pool that is leaning...

Are you sure it's the liner that is peeling, and not some algae/ bio- nasty? In 20 years, I've never seen a liner 'delaminate' - I have seen stuff that grew on the walls while the pool was overfilled that dried and flaked when the water was taken back down.

It is flaking...looks like skin peeling...eewww...I'll take a pic tomorrow and post.

I hope it's the case of what you said and not the liner falling apart.
