Are you pointing with the handle or the pointer? Hayward's standard layout (using the pointer on the opposite side from the handle) is Filter at 6, Waste at 8, Closed at 10, Backwash at 12, Recirculate at 2 and Rinse at 4.

Good answer John - I just want to point out for anyone with a DE filter, the positions are 180 degrees opposite!
