Default How far can i go?

I want to bring my stabilizer level down in my 23000 gal inground pool. How much water can I remove before I risk problems with the vinyl liner?

I don't have a liner pool, but seems like I remember reading that you should not drain more than a third of the water. I hope someone else will step in here.... Have you tried running a search? It might take a bit of trial and error but I have no doubt the info you're seeking is in there. Good luck!

Thanks for your response. I have run a search in the "Forums" but with no success. Maybe I'll just "google it" and see what I can come up with.

With a liner pool I would not drain more than 1 foot below the skimmer or you can run into problems.

You can safely take it down to ~ 6" up the shallow end wall without worrying about having to reset the liner, actually 2" is the 'floor set' level but let's play it safe. Of course this is for a pool that doesn't have high ground water issues!

It's more efficient to drain as much water as you safely can to perform dilutions. If you suspect a ground water issue (like it's been raining for the past month, or all the local rivers are at flood stage) do multiple drainings so that you don't lower the water so much that the liner floats. Also be sure that your refill water is OK and won't cause you more problems.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I had taken the water level down to about 4" in the shallow end and started to refill today. Hopefully my cyanuric acid level will drop from its previous 100 ppm.

I'm doing the same thing to my pool, just curious how you drained the pool? I tried the trick with having my regular vacuum line in the pool and set the pump to waste but as soon as it got below the skimmer there was too much air getting into the pump.

Next year we plan to replace the liner and draining the pool using a garden hose...well I might as well start now

Thumbs up Re: How far can i go?

I have a drain at the bottom of the pool.
