Default Need new pump motor, need help

Pool size 15,000 gallons, 24 ft above ground

This is our 6th summer with this pool and have not had to replace anything yet, but some parts inside the sand filter. Which is a 250lb sand filter. Filter rate is 25GPM, backwash rate is 80 GPM.

We need a new motor, and I think the one that we have had was too big for our pool as it would blow sand and occasionally fine debris back into the pool. We had a 1.5 HP it does not give a service factor rating.

Please help, I am so confused.

Here is a link to a recent thread discussing pumps for AG pools. I also have a 24 ft AG. In this thread, there is some discussion about the replacement pump I bought for my pool last summer. Hope this helps.

I would say that 1.5 hp is definitely too big for AG pools. I have a 1 hp for my 29K IG pool, and it's plenty big.

I didn't end up getting the motor/pump that I said that I would in the post referenced above. I got a pentair dynamo 1hp 2 speed motor/pump - a little bit larger, but compensated by getting a 2 speed. I've been pleased with it so far.

I probably could have went with the 3/4 hp, but I split the difference between that and the 1 1/2 hp that I had. That referenced model does not have an electrical cord as many do not. I took the cord off of my old pump/motor and put it on the new one - five minute job.
