Default Pool Pilot Total Digital - Is this flow ok

Pool is 9000 gals gunite - 12 years old, pump is 3/4 horsepower. Flow before entering heat pump is 65 gals per minute adjusted via by pass valve to optimum 45 gpm.
So lets say combined 55 gpm.

Is the flow ok? If it is what would be the optimum running time?

If I purchased a Pool Pilot total digital control which would be the optimum model if expense were no issue and which would be good if it were, or is it the same the under 20,000 gal model?

It would be set at 7.5 pH as we have an iron problem from volcanic red dirt blowing into pool?

Currently FC drops 1 ppm per day using Ultra Bleach (WalMart). As I live in Honolulu the 6% is most probably 5.25% by the time I get it due to temperature and light - maybe not - any opinions?

Pool maintained as follows using Taylor Kit readings:

    Temp 74-75 at 2pm -78 to 80 at 6pm in April.

TA 100 (85 if one allows CYA adjustment) Will drop to 70 with SWG.

pH 7.5 (rises .1 every 2 days even if I dop TA to 70)

FC 6 (hope to maintain at 3 with SWG. Is higher ok? If so how high?)

    CH 400

CYA 45 (will increase to 70 with SWG)

    Borate 50 (separate kit)

Salt currently 1000 (Taylor Kit) (will increase to 3000 with SWG)

Pump runs for 4 hours per day.

No Algae (except small black spot which I forgot to kill when I drained it but got the other 4, got rid of the others by scrubbing with steel brush then folding paper towels and putting on top soaked in bleach for 8 hours / black algae is common Hawaii problem due to salt in the air which seems to help it grow!)

    Water Condition: Crystal Clear

Why am I doing this because I'm getting older and hate fighting the rising pH manually.

    Hey Smallpooldad,

    Thanks for considering Pool Pilot.
As you're planning on running your pump only 4 hrs/day, I would recommend the largest cell...well, ok. I always recommend the largest size cell you can afford. But in your case, it will be needed to generate enough chlorine within the 4 hrs. pump run time.

The flow is sufficient for the proper operation of the Pool Pilot. The minimum flow is 20 gpm.

Normal pump run times suggest running your pool enough for at least one circulation of water.
    9,000 gallons
    55 gpm pump
    = 164 minutes for one turnover = 2.7 hrs/day minimum.
So 4 hrs/day would be sufficient (1.5 turnovers per day). I would recommend that you run the pump in the middle of the day or during peak pool usage.

With the Total Control system, you will need to keep your cyanuric acid level below 50 ppm, as it will affect the ORP reading.

    Hope this helps.
