    Default AGP Replacement Filter Suggestion

I'm looking for a new filter for my 24' x 52" round AGP, approx 14,400 gallons. It's 10 years old and my original Hayward EC-45 DE filter with 1 HP motor has gotten very loud and is a bit rusty, and rather than replace it and then have a problem with the filter itself, I've decided the whole thing is ready for the can! So, after doing some research, I've decided to go with a Cartridge filter and narrowed it down to two..... both Haywards..... either the:

    1.) Easy-Clear System W/1HP Pump or

    2.) X-Stream Filter System W/1HP Pump

Each comes in 2 models. The Easy-Clear models handle either 24,000 or 32,600 gallons in 8 hours. The X-Stream models handle either 38,400 or 57,600 gallons in 8 hours. So it appears all 4 models will do the job.

I don't know if anyone has had any specific problems with these units, however I've read entries about hoses slipping off the X-Stream models and figured this is minor and something I could get to work out. Could one of you senior members please advise me? Thank you very much!!

    I ordered the X-Stream 100 for my pool on 4/16/08 for $431.00.
I will post my thoughts and findings after I install it.

If you've never used a cartridge filter it may present "challenges" you don't like.

The biggest is cleaning. Most people find it EXTREMELY difficult and messy. You cannot back-wash as that destroys the cartridge. But there are some tricks that help, I understand. Search the board for those tips.

I had a small cart on a 15' donut pool and disliked it. Luckily, the carts were only $10 so I could toss them rather than struggle. But the big ones cost $150 or so which rules out discarding them.

There's a new kind of brush that attaches to a hose that's designed for carts. If it works as advertised, the cleaning problems are easily solved.

Apparently soaking it in automatic dishwasher detergent is also an easy way to clean them. But I've not tried it.

So be forewarned: You will either love your cart or you will hate it. Me? I have a sand filter and I'm perfectly happy with it.
