    Default free chlorine sensors yet?

My Pool Pilot works great, but it would be even better if it could measure the concentration of free chlorine in the pool and adjust itself correspondingly.

Upon browsing the internet I noticed that there exist several free chlorine sensors on the market. Are these prohibitively expensive or could they be added to a system such as the Pool Pilot so that I don't have to worry about the chlorine level setting any more?

To me this would be worth $300 to $400. It would be more useful than the automatic pH compensation, because the pH doesn't change as fast in my pool

I wonder if PoolSean has any information on this.

    Thanks!

Almost any FC sensor device can be used in conjunction with the Pool Pilot provided it has a dry contact closure to activate the cell production. A dry contact closure is basically an Opened/Closed circuit switch, without any voltage being sent out.
In most cases, the FC controller will activate a 110 volt pigtail, where a chemical feed pump would be activated; or a 24 volt signal, where a solinoid would feed chemicals.
IF the controller you're interested in does not provide a dry contact, we offer a relay to make the 110 volt voltage into a dry contact.

Most of the time these are cost prohibitive for residential use and are mainly on commercial pools.
Make sure though, that the sensor being used is a GOLD TIPPED sensor, which reacts better than the standard Platinum tipped sensor in salt pool applications.

    Hope this helps,

Thank you Sean. Searching for "gold-tipped chlorine sensor" lead to this page:

There is even a list price, $795, and it looks like one has to buy the controller in addition. That may be a bit too much. It's not even clear how long it will last...
