Default Minimum time to filter pool daily?

Anyone have a recommendation for minimum daily filtration? I have no algae problems (thanks to 9ppm chlorine, which did the trick - thanks, Pool forum!)

I am wishing to minimize my pump cycle to conserve electricity. Is the rule of thumb to filter each ft2 of water one time daily?

I have a 21,000 gallon pool and my filter is rated at 96 gpm.

The rule of thumb that we've always advised is to run the pump long enough to completely turn your water over at least once daily (during the swim season, anyway.....it can be substantially cut down if you leave your pool open during the winter).

Also take in to consideration how much chlorine you need to generate.

Dunno about the saltwater generator, but I experimented on my 15K gallon pool and got it down to the minimum that keeps it looking okay. I run the pumps twice a day - 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening. That gets the pool 95% clean in terms of visible stuff like leaves on the bottom. The Polaris may miss a few things now and then, but it usually gets the bottom clean.

Thanks, I am going to try dropping from 7 hours to 4 and see what happens. At 96 gpm on the filter, it should take just under 4 hours to filter the whole pool.

My pool is only 7500 gallons, not sure the gpm on it but I run it for 3 hours in the morning and almost 4 hours at night, I'm def. going to lower it this summer.

The rating of your filter is its maximum flow rate. The actual flow rate of your system is determined by the pump size and the pool's plumbing.

I run mine 10 hours/day in the summer due to the high water temp here in so. florida. My pool is 90 degrees. It may be overkill but my attitude is better safe than sorry.
