Waste, she doesn't even know the filter type at this point, but if it's a sand filter, I imagine it will just involve a lot of backwashing when 12-15 above baseline psi. If it's anything else I'll come back with questions as I know nothing about other kinds of systems. Thanks for the input re: how much bleach to add. Will report back at some point (could be weeks away).

If you put a sock in the skimmer basket and change it a couple times each day during the cleanup process the filter won't need a whole lot of backwashing at all. I had to let my pool go green for a month during 85 F weather, long story. With lots of bleach and the pump running 24/7 I had blue water within 5 days and sparkling clear water by Day 10. I brushed the bottom even though I couldn't see it, just to dislodge the algae. The skimmer socks caught nearly all the debris and I backwashed just the one time after the water was clear again.
