    Cool closing question

Ok, here in West Virginia the nights are getting colder and mountaineers are on their way to a National Championship ( i just jinxed them). anyways.....
I was going to close my pool next weekend. I usually wait till Oct 1 but will be away then.
My water temp was 70 today, no one is swimming

Current FC 14 and have not added bleach since Thursday. Ph and everything is in balance and within spec. Cya is about 70 as I run this all yr long

I read you should shock the pool and then add one bottle of polyquat. i was going to add poly Monday and recirc for 48 hrs then add more bleach to get to shock level after the poly eats what FC it wants. Then hopefully close this weekend.
Any other ideas or should I wait to water temp to go down some more.

    Thanks
    Mike

    Thumbs up Re: closing question

Mike, sounds good to me, which is probably why your not needing/ receiving any input from the rest of us

If you have a solid cover, sun can't 'activate' any algae when the cl drops -- if you have a mesh cover, you might want to pop a corner back every week or so until the water is too cold to support algae growth and check cl and cc, once the water is 50-55deg, you won't need to do this until the water warms back up.

    mike,

Follows my routine at this point. Pool is covered so no more leaves get in. Our temps in IL have been higher so I did get one last swim yesterday before cover went on. then put the polyquat in and will shot for last time.

this is my 6 year on this last year we had some pin holes from the birds so was just slightly milky so i shocked and ran 24/7 or 3 days
