I have a Polaris 380, and it lives in my pool year round. I tend to keep my chlorine levels at 8-10 most all the time, and I do shock frequently. The only problem I've ever had with it that I could attribute to chlorine is that the plastic on the wheels tends to get soft and rubbery, although the wheels on it didn't have to be replaced until the 5th year. Could be the chlorine, could be that it lives in water year round, or maybe the water temp changing from the 90s to the 50s over the winter.
I wouldn't expect 6 ppm chlorine to be a problem for a cleaner, but if that's what you're maintaining all the time, I don't think that it would make any difference if you removed the cleaner while adding the bleach.
