Black stains - preventing

We are building a house and planning to install a vinyl liner pool next spring (08). We are building in a rural area, and are on a 'rural water' system. Our soon to be neighbors have a pool, and told us they have had terrible black staining problems and finallly got these under control with Nature2 and weekly shocking.

From reading these posts, I am assuming these are iron stains and might be able to be controlled with absorbic acid and a followup chemcial. My question is, does this prevent us from getting a Salt Water Generator? Our neighbor seems to think so. I am really wanting a SWG, as we have some friends with one, and they rave about the easy maintenance.

Just don't want to make an expensive mistake by purchasing the wrong chlorinating system. Any (simple) advice would be appreciated.

I don't know what kind of stains your neighbor had, but nature 2 puts copper in the water, so that is adding metals. I wonder if the chemistry in their pool was off before they got the nature 2??? Iron stains ususally show up as brown, and copper as blue or green. Magnese sometimes shows up as black. Anyway you can have a salt water generator. It will have nothing to do with staining your pool as long as you use the correct salt. If you are filling from a well, and you think there imay be metals in the water, then just add a sequestering agent when filling before putting in the chlorine. Where are the black stains? Are they just at the waterline and in the skimmer, or did the whole pool stain?
