Everyone wants numbers because they can tell us a lot about what's causing the "cloudy fizzy water". There are many reasons for water to not be clear, but there's no way for us to advise you on what's causing your problem without knowing the condition of your pool, and we need numbers to do that. To try to diagnose problems without levels for CYA, FC, CC, pH, TA, and sometimes CH is just shooting in the dark--wild guesses, which don't do you any good.
Test strips are known to be not accurate enough to help manage water problems. They can be used to get "ballpark" figures, but to get accurate numbers to fix problems, you need to use drop-based reagent testing.
It is possible to use the pucks without draining and refilling a lot of water, but you need to have a good handle on your pool chemistry in order to do so.
