Default So what do you do?

So I guess the Big tabs make my cya go up ,so then i have to drain out water, then i drain out water and i get wrinkles in my liner, So I try BBB but the water seems cloudy and fizzy ,also algae trying to grow in small wrinkles

Is a new liner and the saltwater system something that would eliminate that ?

might as well start planning for next year

is it inevitable if your using tabs your going to have to drain ?

If you use bleach at the proper levels, you should not have cloudy fizzy water. You would have to post a full set of numbers along with the size and type of your pool so we can help you understand how and why you need to keep certain levels of chemicals in your water. Saltwater systems are nice, but they are not necessary. I run my pool all summer with bleach and use pucks too, keeping an eye o my cya. So there are a lot of variables in keeping pool crystal clear the most convenient way for you

Everyone wants numbers because they can tell us a lot about what's causing the "cloudy fizzy water". There are many reasons for water to not be clear, but there's no way for us to advise you on what's causing your problem without knowing the condition of your pool, and we need numbers to do that. To try to diagnose problems without levels for CYA, FC, CC, pH, TA, and sometimes CH is just shooting in the dark--wild guesses, which don't do you any good.

Test strips are known to be not accurate enough to help manage water problems. They can be used to get "ballpark" figures, but to get accurate numbers to fix problems, you need to use drop-based reagent testing.

It is possible to use the pucks without draining and refilling a lot of water, but you need to have a good handle on your pool chemistry in order to do so.

well from reading here it seems the cya will always continue to build up

    but here they are

    cya 85
    ph 7.5
    akalinity 100
    hardiness 237
    free chlorine 1.9

    total chlorine 2.8

The CYA will always build up, but does reduce some by splashout, backwashes, and dilution. The key is to either stop using them altogether when your CYA is where you want it, or use them at a very low feed rate (starting with a low CYA) but with bleach to maintain your desired chlorine amount.

I find that I can use the tabs throughout a summer swim season, then switch to bleach or cal-hypo over the winter, and the CYA goes back to almost nothing over the winter due to backwashes and rain dilution. Of course, I run a higher CYA level than most people due to my location and the sun exposure of my pool, but you could still use the tabs with the feeder turned very low and just supplement with bleach. Or switch to cal-hypo or bleach for regular chlorination and just use the trichlor tabs in a feeder for vacations, etc. They are useful, if you know what you're doing. But if you try to use them exclusively for all your chlorination, yes, you're going to find yourself in the high CYA/drain/refill cycle.

With your CC at .9, you definitely need to shock the pool and maintain that until the CC goes away. Keep the pump running and brush your pool daily. With a CYA of 85, you need to make sure that your TC never drops below 5, and really is better maintained around 6-7. When you shock, you need to shock up to 20 in order to do any good. Don't use dichlor for this--it's only going to raise your CYA higher. Use cal-hypo, or better yet, plain bleach.
