    Question PolyQuat??

I live in Canada and I haven't been able to find a Polyquat product called hth.

I understand that it is a liquid algicide and that it is recommended as a product to help prevent algicide from forming in your pool.

    This product contains:
    60%
poly oxyethylene (dimethyliminio) ethylene (dimethyliminio) ethylene dichloride according to Ben's page:
    http://www.poolsolutions.com/gd/polyquat.html

There are a number of liquid algicide for sale in my area. I have been able to find these products... would you recommend one over the other.

    Bioguard's Algae ERASE
3.3% Elemental Copper with polcarboxylate and polyhydroxy acid stabilizers

    OR

    Poolcare SUPER Algae Kill 40%
poly oxyethylene (dimethyliminio) ethylene (dimethyliminio) ethylene dichloride
This has the same elements as the polyquat Ben recommends but only at 40% strength.

Which product would be better to use, and at 40% is it strong enought to do the job.

Thanks for any help you can provide.
    Dave

    Hi Dave,

The product I use is called Poly60 and is made by Seaboard. I don't think there's a polyquat called hth. HTH is a manufacturer.

Since you can't find Poly60 I'd use the 40 but more of it.

Don't use a copper-based algeacide, as you will be asking for more troubles!
Like Anna said, the 40 would be your best bet.

Are you having a problem that makes you think you need the polyquat? or are you planning ahead for closing your pool for winter?

I never heard any mention of a true poly that was less than 60%. Experts please help?
Why BBB? Because money can't buy happiness, but saving it sure can!

Yeah, it's out there--usually 30%. It LOOKS cheaper but when you do the math it's more expensive.

Here's a link (of many similar ones) to a less than 60% poly:
