    Default Beginning chemicals?

Well we finally have the pool up and filled. 24' AGP- approx 11,900 gallons. The water man came yesterday with 11,000 gallons of spring water. It feeds a limestone quarry so I'm sure my numbers reflect this. After adding bleach my numbers are as follows (from HTH drop kit, I know they are not complete)
    pH-7.8
    TC- 15
    hardness- 600
    TA- 360
    CYA-0
    temp- 76 degrees
From reading here I think I need to lower pH and aerate. If this is correct how long after adding acid do we need to wait to swim? Needless to say, the 3 kids and myself are very anxious to swim! Thanks, Polly

    Polly,

Your pH is at the top of normal so you could add acid to get it to 7.4 or so or you could wait and test again in a day or so to see where you are.

You can swim VERY shortly after adding acid....it dilutes almost immediately.

Your Cl will go away in a day if you don't add some CYA....that would be my first priority. download bleachcalc and you can figure how much CYA (I'd try to get to 30ppm for starters) and how much acid you'll need.

    Meanwhile......GO swimming!

Thanks so much for the quick reply. I have CYA dissolving as we speak and will add acid shortly. Unfortunately (or not) we have had thunderstorms all day- so we're out of the pool. We haven't had rain in a good 2 weeks tho so I guess we should be glad for it! Thanks again.
