Default Pool Pump plastic lid - cleaning?

My once clear plastic lid on my pump has become clouded a difficult to see through. Is there any way of cleaning so to be clear again without damaging. I was thinking an acid bath, but wanted to post to be sure.
    Thanks

The easiest way to clean it is to buy a new one. The cloudiness comes from oxidized plastic, which won't clean off.

My dad told me that he cleaned his with that CLR or Oxiclean or something like that. I can't remember. If you plan to buy a new one anyway, try what ever you like. You may find something that works and you can let us know.
If you ruin it, then you already decided to buy a new one.
