    Default Help with SWG

I am getting ready to install a Hayward Swimpure SWG and I am trying to get the water balance right before it is installed and on-line.

I have a 20 x 40 vinyl in-ground pool (about 36000 gal). I have been adding Borax to raise pH and using bleach for Cl. I am not sure about what CYA and TA levels I should target.

    Currently:

    Cl - 2.5 ppm
    CYA - 30 ppm
    TA - 40 ppm
    pH - 6.8
    Temp - 72

I know that I need to raise pH, but if I need to raise TA than I will add baking soda. The instructions say a TA of 80 ppm is perfered.

I ran a lower CYA for the BBB approach, but the instructions say 60-80 ppm CYA.

    I could use some advice.

    Thanks,

    Cbrecman

that sounds right on the level you want to get your cya to. i run mine anywhere between 50 and 70 with my swg with no issues. i would suggest you wait and see if you need to raise your ph. it's quite common for ph to rise when you start running an swg so you may not have an issue there to worry about. mine for example went from 7.2 to 7.8 with my initial blast with the swg but i want everything to settle in more as experience has told me that initial ph number from the swg could well be a bit high on the test kit. i'm betting i'll be at 7.4 or 7.6 which is fine by me. my cya is currently at 60. i had it at 50 but bumped it up a bit as i knew i would need to do some season starting backwash and add a bit of water.
