Default For those "on the fence" about pool ownership...

...Go for it. I spent more time on the grass that used to be where the pool is. At first things are a little hectic because you are learning your pools particular "habits" and such. Now, I spend 10 minutes every Wednesday, and about an hour on Saturday maintaining my pool---I love it. One of my biggest fears was buyers remorse due to the maintenance/upkeep; I was worried that the pool would be a burden---not the case.

Just plan well, consider a SWCG (or some other type of auto-chlorination); it is VERY nice taking one more thing out of the maintenance equation. Especially when you want to go on vacation. I check my chlorine levels Wed, Sat just to ensure the SWCG is operating properly, and also test ph on the same days. BBB is also very easy/effective, and prior to implementing the SWCG I used the BBB method. Water was beautiful, and if we were going to be gone 7-10 days, I'd pour a gallon or 2 of clorox in, and when I returned I still had FC in the pool.

Another "upgrade" I'm glad I did was the floor jets (turbo sweep system)---BUT, not for the reason you would think. It does an "OK" job of keeping the floor clean and pushing debris towards the drains, but what I really like is the extra circulation; and---something I hadn't considered---the way it takes the top "hot" water (via the skimmer), and returns it from the bottom. No cold spots in the pool, very nice. Of course every pool should have autofill--it's standard around here, but 10 years ago it was an option.

Thanks to the great advice here, effective methods, and the poolforum experts pointing out the big priorities; pool ownership has been a joy.
