Default Replaced spider gasket now leaking from waste

Today I opened my pool and started the filter and water was leaking from the waste. I replaced the spider gasket on the filter. It is the correct spider gasket. I put the lubricant on it, maybe too much or not enough? Not really sure what the heck is going on. I can't put the old gasket back in because it was glued in or melted in so I had to break it apart to get it out.

Am I doomed or will maybe the gasket end up compressing and working? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Perhaps you also need a new spring to put the right amount of pressure on the gasket ???

You could also install a valve in the waste line.

I read in another thread that putting a ball valve could be dangerous because of a buildup of pressure. Is that true?

I do not recommend putting a valve on the waste (backwash) line to stop a leaking spider gasket. I tried the same think and ended up with a pressure buildup in the backwash line that caused the backwash sight glass to leak. You should get the spider gasket fixed.

I called the manufac. of the filter, Astral. They said I need to glue in the spider gasket with super glue. I just glued it in. Haven't installed it back in yet not sure how long I'm supposed to let it dry for. I'm hoping that fixed the problem but we'll see.

    Hi Nicole,
Superglue (CA Glue)may not be the perfect solution, it should last for some time, however, chlorine will attack it and break it down faster than contact cement. also, the gasket is flexible, the super glue is not, seperation issues may occur.
Just note that ifd it starts to lak in teh future to reglue it using contact cement

Well it's still leaking. Really bad at first then I shut off the filter move the gasket through the positions and then turned the filter back on and it was down to a drip. I let the filter run for about 1/2 hour while vacuuming and by the time I was done with that it was still dripping but not as frequently.

I took it back out and wiped off all of the lubricant and also cleaned off in the valve assembly the plastic the gasket sits on. There was some old residue on it that had to be scraped off with my fingernail. Just going to try it and if the leak stops maybe I'll take it back off when I'm going to switch the filter to backwash and put a little bit of lubricant on.
