First numbers - we're off and running
We installed a used 28' AG Doughboy late last season. We enjoyed it for about 3-4 weeks before having to close it up. We took the cover off yesterday (May 20, 2007) and I was pleased to see clear water. A fair amount of leaves and whirly-gigs due to the delay in getting the cover on after draining. Opened the main drain and fired up the filter as we were filling it up. We got lots of aeration, which was needed due to high Alk last year. My opening numbers were:
fc 0
cc 0
cya 0
alk 320
ph 7.8
I dumped 7 gallons of 6% bleach in last night and this morning there was 0 fc and cc, again. No surprise there. The water was swampy smelling to begin with (3 dead birds in the water in addition to the previously mentioned leaves and whirly-gigs).
This morning before work I checked the ph and cc and found the ph had gone up to 8.0 and the cc was 0 again. I added 14 oz of muratic acid and the rest of the bleach I had on hand which was about 4 gallons. Took the afternoon off work so I could clean up the pool and, after vacuuming, brushing adding liquid chlorine from the pool store and filtering for 24 hours, I have the following at 5:30 pm:
fc 12
cc .5
alk 280
ph 7.8
cya 0
temp 67
I need to continue lowering the alk and I've got the cya dissolving in some pantyhose suspended in front of the return via the leaf bag but I feel pretty confident that things will clean up nicely now. I plan on checking the cc again before bed and again in the morning.
I am so psyched right now. It was all I could do to keep my mouth shut in the pool store as I heard a lady getting "pool stored" after she asked what chemicals she needed to get started.
