    Default Pump water off cover

I just opened my pool and the cover had alot of water/algea on it. Solution:
Add a gallon or so of bleach and move around with broom (ie. brush algae from the cover so the bleach can kill it). A few hrs later or next day set your filter to "waste" and use hose to suck waste water off cover. Get as much off as possible, then pull off the cover and finish cleaning off rest of the algae/dirt, let it dry and then store it. This will keep the dirty water on top from mixing with the cleaner water--then just start adding water, bleach and testing as normal. Some folks don't think about it, but adding water to normal level is alot easier and cheaper that fighting algae blooms for a week+!
