    Red face Low PH ?

Hi. Need your brains again! Accidentally lowered my 7.8-ish ph to something that looks like 7 or 7.2. (FC 3.5) Should I leave it alone & let it rise on its own or add Borax? If yes to Borax, how much? I've had to add Muratic acid more this season than last year because of the new plaster (March), but I did over-estimate a tad this morn. I would actually like to get in the pool tonight or tomorrow, but concerned about the PH. Thanks for ALL your help. Happy Swimming, Joyce
p.s. Also, is there a powder that is easier to use than the muratic acid?

I just went back out and retested the PH w/a swirley dip stick thing and it said my PH was 7.6. Don't shoot me, the stuff came w/the pool last year! Also, retested w/Ben's kit and it looks more like 7.4. Now I feel better, but am a bit confused...since I had added muratic acid this morn. Perhaps it needed longer to circulate? Anyway, thanks folks. I love this site.

Looks to me like you just needed to let it circulate a bit longer. There is a powder you can use to lower pH..it's called pH Down...you can get it al WalMart in the pool section. It takes more and is a little more expensive than muriatic, but it is much easier and safer to deal with if the muriatic acid makes you nervous.
