    Default How to Adjust pH and TA

    Without a weight scale, how do you determine how much acid or borax to add to change the pH some amount? Same for baking soda to adjust TA.

    I read a thread that 1 cup of baking soda was 1 pound, is this right?

    I started this thread to address this very issue. It does seem that bulk density, that is the density of powder or granules sold for dry chemicals, does mostly seem to be around 1.0 - 1.2 g/ml which is about 1.0 - 1.2 ounce weight per fluid ounce volume or 1.0 - 1.2 pound for TWO cups. So one cup is about 1/2 pound (0.5 - 0.6 pounds).

    The best thing to do is to measure it on a scale, at least once, (subtracting out the weight of the cup, of course) and then report on the thread your results so others can know as well.

    That would be very convenient if one cup is about 1/2 lbs. 1/2 lbs is 8 oz by weight and 1 cup is 8 oz by volume.
