    Default Need Help....

    I am trying to figure about how many gallons my pool has. It is 27' round x 4' deep. I am going to try using bleach this year. Any suggestions or advice with be GREATLY welcomed as this is all new to me...I just took my cover off and it is cloudy with a very dirty bottom of worms it looks like... I don't know what I should do First, vaccum or bleach??? HELP please.

    If your water level really is 4 feet, then your volume would be about 17,175 gallons. However, your water depth is probably more like 3 ft. 8 inches or so which would be a little more than 16,000 gallons. I would vacuum first and try and remove as much debris as you can and then shock the pool. It would be a good idea for you to post a complete set of current water testing results and let someone here take a look at them. Then, we can better advise you on helping you get started.     The short formula for gallons in a round pool is:

    Diameter * Diameter * Height * 5.9.

    Note that Diameter and Height are both in feet, and Height is the height of the water, not the pool wall.

    So if you have a 4' high pool, your water is probably 3.5 to 3.75 feet high or between 6" to 3" below the rail.

    The LONG formula is from your high school geometry:

    Pi*R-squared*height*7.48

    7.48 is the number of gallons in a cubic foot of water.
