Yes, I would consider it accurate. I tested my CYA level now that the pool is open for use again and it is lower than at the start or in the middle of the winter. CYA typically drops over the winter and in my case I had maintained chlorine levels. It may drop to zero if no chlorine is in the water -- anaerobic bacteria consume CYA and produce ammonia. With chlorine in the water, I'm not sure what happens but chlorine does break down CYA albeit very slowly at normal pH and low chlorine concentration.
