CYA Test Reliability

My pool water is 52 degrees as of yesterday. I did a test for CYA using the disappearing dot with a 25ml sample (Rainbow Lifeguard). Before I ran the test I warmed the sample up to 70 degrees in a water bath.

Since the warming process took only a minute or two would you consider the results to be valid. I got slightly less than I expected??

Yes, I would consider it accurate. I tested my CYA level now that the pool is open for use again and it is lower than at the start or in the middle of the winter. CYA typically drops over the winter and in my case I had maintained chlorine levels. It may drop to zero if no chlorine is in the water -- anaerobic bacteria consume CYA and produce ammonia. With chlorine in the water, I'm not sure what happens but chlorine does break down CYA albeit very slowly at normal pH and low chlorine concentration.

As usual, mine was almost nothing when I opened and topped off. We had several inches of rain after closing, then snowmelt and use a Arctic Armor mesh winter cover so it goes right into the pool. We are adding bit by bit to get back up there.
