    Default Hayward Pool Vac Questions

I bought a house last summer.... have a pool... owner left the Hayward Pool Vac thing.... So that is what I am using, or trying to use.

The previous owner told me how to connect it etc.

The problem is that the little guy will move around the bottom for a few minutes if that long then stop. Sometimes he starts moving again but sometimes he needs a nudge. His cleaning duty cycle is very low... He is stationary longer than he is moving. Is this normal?

I don't know about the Hayward but my Polaris will slow down or stop if the screen filter in the hose gets clogged. The Polaris is water-driven, so if the water's not flowing..... Hope this helps!

I have found that if it is the little bug type that the feet are probably worn....they are about $15 to buy. If they are worn then they dont make contact on the bottom the way they should...also the hose length and return nozzles affect the performance....hayward has faqs on their website...

If this is a suction side cleaner, are you sure you have ALL of the air out of the hose before using it? If its airlocked, nothing will happen either - it will gulp some water occassionally and go a little ways, then sit airlocked again. Make sure you put the end of the hose up against the return jet for a bit until it blows the air out of the hoses, then put it on the skimmer. Also, a good leaf canister installed inline on the hose helps to not clog up your skimmer with crud so fast that there is no suction to drive the unit. And then there is the feet thing too (check out topnotch's other post on his feet fix!)
    Beats driving to the lake!

I have the same problem with my Hayward Ultra Vac.

My manual states teh cause as one of the following
    -Lack of flow through cleaner.
    -Partial blockage of throat area
    -Worn Shoes
    -Worn wings.

Never been able to find exactly what my problem is, but each time I check the hoses and undo the the captive screw at the bottom to clean the throat area. When I put it back in it seems to work fine...for awhile.

I do know that there is a knob on mine labelled I, II, III on the back

Are the shoes to which you refer those little cork thing? Where is a good place to buy parts for the Pool Vac? My little flap thing on the back just broke off.

Yes the shoes are the cork things, the wings are on the side and the flaps are on the front and back.

Usually mine stalls and I find a small pebble stuck in it. To remove it on my Hayward Ultra, this means taking out the captivated screw to the throat area, as well as four screws on the bottom plate.
